The War Memorial

The War Memorial

The War Memorial stands just outside the church. It was designed by Walter Brierley and Mr. Rutherford in 1921 and dedicated by the Bishop of Whitby in 1922.

The memorial was cleaned and renovated in 2003.

The memorial originally only carried the names of those who died in the First World War, and it was only recently that names from the Second World War were added.
 
The main inscription reads: "In proud and loving memory of the men of Dringhouses who laid down their lives for God and Country in the Great War 1914 - 1918"
 
Those remembered from the First World War are: A Bishop, H S Brown, R M Bustard, H Clark, J F Clarkson, C Cruse, A Cluthell, F Dawson, W Elton, W Flanagan, H Foxton, R W Fowler, A Gaius, G Harris, H Lewis, D P Mackay, A Maddison, G W Mannall, F H Phluger, I Priest, F Richardson, H Richardson, A Shaw, T Tate, C Walker, F Waudby, E Woodall.
 
From the Second World War, the following are remembered: G Banks, G Granston, W N Franklin, W A Kell, M H A Robinson, K T P Terry.  "Lest we forget."
