St. Edward's - Church Music

Home | Church Groups | Other Groups

Music plays a significant part in the life of St. Edward's. There are three sources which are explained below (final picture to follow!):

The Organ

The OrganThe church organ is a Baroque-style instrument, although it was only installed in 1980, by Church and Co. It has two manuals and pedals, and was extended in the early 1990's with the addition of the trumpet and the rearrangement of the existing stops to maintain balance.
The organ is not used for all services, particularly those during the week, but can normally be heard at the 10am and 6.30pm services on Sundays, as well as the major festivals which occur during the week.
It is also available for weddings and funerals, and has been known to participate in concerts which are occasionally held in the church.

Music Group

The Music Group at rehearsalThe Music Group provides an opportunity for instrumentalists of any standard to participate in the worship of the church. It normally plays once a month at the 10am Family Service on the first Sunday, replacing the organ as music provider, but occasionally does 'guest' spots in other services.
Even those with little experience can join as parts are written to suit the capabilities of the players.

Rehearsals for the Music Group normally take place on the Friday preceding the first Sunday of the month, from 6.15pm to 7pm.

For further information, please contact Angela Anelay in the church.

The Choir

The Choir at rehearsalThe Choir normally sings at the 10am service on Sunday mornings and, occasionally at the 6.30pm service as well. It also sings at major mid-week services and, by prior arrangement, can be booked for weddings. Numbers of participants vary, and the choir is always looking for more singers, be they soprano, alto, tenor or bass.

Choir practices normally take place on Friday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
