The village of Dringhouses has a history going back 2000 years. The Dringhouses Local History Group was formed by interested local residents to explore how the village has developed and how it is continuing to change.
The group has a monthly programme of talks and visits. A network of research topics and an archive of present-day Dringhouses are being developed.
For further information or to join this enthusiastic group phone one of the above numbers.

Hob Moor Allotment site off the Tadcaster Road has 31 plots. Currently there is a short waiting list but there may be opportunities to share a plot. The site is part of the Scarcroft & District Allotments and Amateur Gardener's Association which keen gardeners can join whether or not they have an allotment plot, with the advantage that grow bags, fertilisers, composts, organic manure and other garden sundries can then be bought at very competitive prices. For more information ring Malcolm Hainsworth.

Each Tuesday afternoon at 1.30 the group gets together for an hour and a half of Line Dancing. There are breaks between each dance and it's very social. Al Green, our caller, chooses dances to well known tunes, with not too many turns, which suits the majority of us.
All brand new (to us) dancers are asked to come early at first to be walked through that day's dances. Although we dance a very varied programme we are able successfully to include beginners.

The Hospice relies very much on its volunteer helpers to achieve the high level of service to the patients which has become the norm. Opportunities always exist to help in a great variety of ways, either at the Hospice itself or at one of its shops around the city. The range of skills which can be utilised is almost boundless! Contrary to a view sometimes held, the Hospice is a happy, friendly place - come and meet us, have a chat and see how you could help.

The group meets each Monday from 9.30am to 11.30am from September to April.
Many types of needlework are done including cross-stitch, tapestry, gold-work and some knitting and a recent project has been making Linus quilts for a children's hospice. In the years since it's formation in 1992 the group has held three exhibitions and has raised several thousands of pounds for various charities.
Each year there is at least one outing. York and Beverley Minsters, Harewood House, Bowes Museum, Port Sunlight and Chatsworth have been visited, often to see special needlework. The secretary will welcome enquiries for membership.

The group meets in the hall on Wednesday afternoons from September to the end of April. Some outdoor painting is organised for the Summer months.
Members of the group are of all abilities, from beginners to the more experienced. Most work in watercolour, but other media are used. Members provide all their own equipment and subject matter although occasionally the group works on a common theme, e.g. flower study or still life. Bulk orders are placed for paper. The group held its first exhibition in April 2005.
The cost of hiring the hall is divided by the number of members and paid at the beginning of each session. Any surplus money is used for visiting professionals to conduct a demonstration or a workshop.
